Review by Christophe La Fontaine

The album In Concert by Manhattan Transfer is a must-listen for any fan of jazz or vocal harmony. The group's live performance is captured beautifully in this recording, with each member's vocal talents shining through in every track.

The album kicks off with a lively rendition of "That's The Way It Goes," featuring intricate harmonies and scatting from the group. The energy continues with "The Boy From New York City," a fan favorite with its catchy melody and clever lyrics.

Manhattan Transfer's ability to seamlessly blend genres is on full display in tracks like "Birdland," which combines jazz and rock elements, and "Operator," a soulful and bluesy number. The group's cover of "Route 66" is a standout, with each member taking turns on lead vocals and showcasing their individual styles.

The album closes with a heartfelt rendition of "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square," a beautiful ballad that highlights the group's vocal range and emotional depth.

My favorite genre of music is that late 60's-mid 70's British progressive and folk rock....so three of my favorite female vocalists are Annie Haslam (Renaissance), Maddy Prior (Steeleye Span) and Sandy Denny (Fairport Convention).

And Janis Siegel completes my Mt. Rushmore. When Manhattan Transfer broke on the scene, they were doing "close harmonies" that hadn't been heard since the heyday of doo-wop.

The only song that they do that I have ever liked was Chanson D'Amour, but they didn't even do it. The rest sounds like very well-orchestrated lift music.

Four middle age white people with no dancing skills! But are some of the best rythum singers ever to hold a mic. But when you're this good, you're not singers...your are well fine tuned instrument's. I would call them the white version of the Temptations minus one,but jazz genre.

In my opinion, one of the best vocal groups of all time in popular music. Rest in peace Tim Hauser.
